Success at the Welsh Health Hack
I spent two exciting days at the Welsh Health Hack last week on Anglesey at Menai Science Park – M SParc. This is the fourth year of Welsh Health Hack, which brought together clinical professionals with digital and technology businesses. Several Clinical problems and challenges were proposed and then through a networking session teams formed to address these problems.
I partnered with Chris Subbe who is an Acute Physician at Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in Bangor and we were joined by a team of students from the School of Computer Science and Electronic Engineering at Bangor University, along with Dr. Franck Vidal (Senior Lecturer). Chris proposed the issue of a broader NEWS score (National Early Warning Score) – one that could be collected in the community or in patients’ homes – thus providing clinicians with information on trends and other factors not covered in the standard NEWS measurements.
For two days over the hack, our team worked on providing a solution to this problem. Our final solution consisted of state of the art technologies to provide meaningful alerts that were useful for clinical staff. We presented the NEWS Bunny idea at the final pitch, to a jury consisting of representatives from Welsh Government and the Bevan Commission. We were successful in the pitch and now look forward to getting to work to bring the solution to life.
